One of our favorite Christmas traditions is making homemade sugar cookies. This is the recipe my mom used when I was growing up and we love it, I think you’ll love it too!
Christmas Sugar Cookies
The almond extract and powdered sugar make these cookies extra special, they have amazing flavor and the perfect texture! You may want to double the recipe as they're going to disappear pretty fast!
Ingredients:
1.5 c powdered sugar
1 c softened butter
1 egg
1 t vanilla
1/2 almond extract
2.5 c all-purpose flour
1 t baking soda
1 t cream of tartar
Steps:
Cream together the butter and powdered sugar until mixed well
Add egg and mix until light and fluffy
Add vanilla and almond extract, mix well
Add baking soda and cream of tartar, mix well
Slowly mix in flour until combined
Press mixture into a large ball and refrigerate covered for 1 hour (or more)
Roll dough out onto a floured surface until 3/16" thick, cut into desired shapes, transfer cookies to a baking sheet
Bake in an oven preheated to 375 degrees for 7-8 minutes or until cookies just start to turn golden on the edges
Let rest on cookie sheet for 1 minute, transfer to a cooling rack
